Rocketry Kicks Off 2024 NASA Student Launch Competition

For the first time since 2020, the Rocketry Team of NUSTARS is competing in the NASA Student Launch Competition. This year’s objective is to design an “in-air deployable payload capable of safely retaining and recovering a group of four STEMnauts in a unique predetermined orientation without the use of a parachute or streamer.” The team’s solution is using an autonomously controlled glider that is folded to fit inside of the launch vehicle and jettisoned out during descent. The team is currently preparing for the Critical Design Review in early January and is excited to begin fabrication.
